Becoming A Vector
Okay, so my book is coming out and I have a website for it. I had to put a really basic one up for the moment, because I didn't have the graphic files back from my publisher when I went to do it, but as long as there's something there with my contact info, I was happy.
I did get the files, though, eventually and I was trying to find something ultra-cool and über retro to make. Of course, when you really need her, the muse is off having coffee with her friends or getting her nails done and is completely unavailable. I knew what I wanted, but couldn't create it myself, unless I wanted to spend weeks learning a new program and reading through tutorials: Photoshop is awesome but I just never got around to creating vector images (which sucks because vector drawings are very much in vogue right now).
Anyway, I wasted a lot of time combing through sites to see if I could make the graphic myself, and then I tried finding images close to my ideal to see if I could figure out a way to just do it. If I had the time I would have been able to learn how to do it, I'm sure of it, but I didn't want to wait. Plus, it's likely I would have taken a year to find out that I suck at vector graphics. And I knew just the gal who could design the PERFECT graphic.
My friend Lizzie is all about design. She's a creative goddess. She takes the most incredible photographs, is a devine digital artist, creates awesome costumewear, is a writer and designer, and will someday be THE film director everyone wants to work with. She's seriously a force to be reckoned with. And she's not yet in her mid-twenties.
I asked Lizzie to design a vector me, with only the very basic of instructions, because on top of everything else she also seems to be psychic. She drew exactly what I wanted in very little time, and this vector gal is eventually going to be my site's "logo" and virtual hostess. This is just the basic drawing, a first draft, but I'm so excited about it.
And if you can, HIRE THIS GIRL. Hire her talents. Order from her Faerietail website, get your kids some wings... accessorize your inner pixie... pick up some devilish horns for Valentine's Day... order head wreaths for your wedding party... consider her catalogue for what you need for your next Fetish Wear Night (I won't say a word if you don't). Tell her "Mischy sent me!".
